CRCF : Mobilize support for the restoration of classified forests in Côte d'Ivoire

As part of the implementation of the Conservation and. Restoration of Classified Forests Project (CRCF), two information workshops were recently held in the regions of Agboville and Adzopé, at the heart of the areas concerned by this major ecological initiative.

The aim is to inform, raise awareness and mobilise all stakeholders around a project that aims to restore forest ecosystems while generating positive spin-offs for local populations.

Two key meetings with local and national authorities

  • The workshop, held in Agboville on 14 April 2025, brought together local stakeholders and the Prefect of the Agnéby-Tiassa region, Sihindou Coulibaly.
  • On 15 April 2025 in Adzopé, the discussions took place in the presence of Minister ACHI Patrick, who is also President of the Mé Regional Council.

These moments of dialogue enabled the ambitions of the CRFC project to be shared and the dynamic of collaboration with the local authorities and populations to be strengthened.

A project at the heart of forest regeneration

The CRCF covers 156,000 hectares, including 12 classified forests and 2 agro-forests, in the Agboville and Adzopé areas. It aims to :

  • Protecting the remaining forests,
  • Restoring degraded areas,
  • Promoting biodiversity,
  • And contribute to the well-being of communities.

It is part of an environmental compensation scheme linked to ENI's ‘Baleine’ oil extraction project.

A strong partnership for lasting impact

This project is supported by a wide range of players :

  • The Ministry of Water and Forests
  • ENI
  • SODEFOR
  • Eticwood
  • Riverside communities
  • Local NGOs and companies

Together, they are combining their efforts to make this initiative a model of participatory and inclusive conservation.

Tangible impacts for communities and nature

The CRCF aims to achieve a transformation that is both ecological and social :

  • + Over 8,000 jobs created (planting, monitoring, maintenance over 30 years),
  • Capacity building in sustainable agriculture and agroforestry,
  • Empowering women and taking vulnerable groups into account,
  • Income-generating projects, accompanied by community infrastructure (schools, wells, infirmaries),
  • Preservation of natural habitats for endemic flora and fauna

These workshops also served as a springboard for a better understanding of the project's challenges and the roles of each player involved. They mark an essential step towards effective, sustainable and inclusive implementation of the CRCF.
